Q. What are Placebo Bands?
A. Placebo bands are silicone bracelets that are used to bring awareness to similar products sold for a lot more money. Unlike these other products, we make no claims as to what they can do for you. The reason for this is because, when tested, these claims fall apart. If you like the look of them, we hope you buy them from us.
Q. What are these tests that you mention?
A. The tests are balance, strength, and flexibility tests. They are usually called applied kinesiology. Here is a video of Australian Skeptics Vice President Richard Saunders explaining what they are and how they are done:
Q. Who are you?
A. Placebo Band North America is run by Christopher Brown (of Meet The Skeptics) and Travis Roy (of Granite State Skeptics).
Q. Didn’t I see another site selling these things?
A. Yes, that would be the Skeptic Bros. They are still selling them, and if you are outside North America we would suggest you buy your bands from them. They were nice enough to give us permission to sell and distribute Placebo Bands here.
Q. What about the money?
A. Great question. Some of the money goes back in for order more bands and expanding our line. Some of the money does indeed go back to us in order to make it worth our time and effort. Our original run we were able to donate $500 to Autism Speaks. We have new plans in the works for how to put the money to skeptical activities, more details on that coming soon. As a hint, we donated some money to Ben Radford for his protest of Sylvia Browne.
Q. Do you do custom colors/designs?
A. It can be cost prohibitive depending on the number of bands you want, but feel free to contact us and we can see what we can do.
Q. What about bulk discounts?
A. We can do bulk discounts, but the web store software doesn’t support it. If you are looking to place a bulk order for your event or group, please contact us.
